Mid-atlantic book tour: Maryland & d.c.

Hey, y’all! If you’re just checking in, my 12 year-old daughter and I have been on a Mid-Atlantic (at least, that’s what I’m calling it) leg of book tour for my new historical novel, THE MINIATURIST’S ASSISTANT. We road-tripped from our home in Western North Carolina up into Virginia and Delaware.

We were ridiculously lucky to spend three days with my best friend (since age 14!) and his family in the awesome small Delaware town of Milford. My friends live in the dreamiest of homes—they’re @house_1924 on Instagram—and have made the most authentic and loveliest of lives there. Friendships like these are an incredibly rare gift, and it was hard to say goodbye.

Pro tip: call your oldest friends. Make a plan. Get together. Do it now. You won’t regret it.

After Milford, we headed to Annapolis, Maryland, where we toured the Maryland State House, the incredible Banneker-Douglass-Tubman Museum, took in the historic architecture, and had English tea. In Edgewater, Maryland, we headed to Wyrd Bookstore, where we had a fabulous night with Wyrd’s awesome reader community talking THE MINIATURIST’S ASSISTANT, history, Charleston, time travel, research, and so much more. That bookstore is special—and its booksellers warm and welcoming. Be sure to stop into Wyrd when you’re in the area! (And author friends, they are a delight—it’s a great spot to add to your book tours.)

Next, we headed to Washington, D.C., where I popped in to sign copies of THE MINIATURIST’S ASSISTANT at the fabulous East City Bookshop. In the way that these things work, the book-buyer happened to be a dear college friend of my best friend, who we’d just stayed with… and we didn’t know this until after I’d made the plans to pop into East City! East City Bookshop has an overflowing delight of a bottom floor, the coolest stock, and so much more. I loved signed books there!

We’re doing a bit of D.C. before heading up into West Virginia. (More on that in a later post.) Off we go!

P.S. I’m sharing photos and videos of our bookish road trip over on my Instagram page, so be sure to check it out.
