take on the south podcast episode

Hey, y’all! Boy, did I have a ball recently with author and professor Mark Smith on the fabulous podcast Take on the South!

Take on the South is produced by the University of South Carolina’s Department of Southern Studies, and it’s full of lively, smart, and nuanced conversations with Southerners of all stripes, about what it means to navigate life in this wonderful and complicated place we call home.

Mark asked the most insightful questions about my forthcoming historical novel, The Miniaturist’s Assistant (which is set in Charleston), my upbringing in Greenville, South Carolina; writing historical fiction, the history of miniature portraits and some of our shared research topics, and my thoughts on AI stealing authors’ works. We had a ball!

If you’ve not subscribed to Take on the South, you can anywhere you get your podcasts. They’ve got a fabulous lineup of guests; in fact, the last person Mark interviewed was Michael Stipe of REM!

I’m grateful to everyone at the pod for having me (and especially to all those Gamecocks for letting a Tiger hang out for a bit).
