vacation books
Hey, y’all.
Well, I had the privilege of a week’s vacation at the beach last week, and I wanted to report back on what I read. I LOVE reading at the beach—I pull my beach chair down into the shallows, let the surf roll around my feet, and sink into a story. It’s heaven.
This year I read three fabulous books, each very different. Here’s my take:
Alcott Hall by Emily Rath — One in a series of “Why Choose?” Regency romances from bestselling author Rath, this one is Lady Madeline Blair’s tale of chasing her fortune and her happiness in the most unconventional of ways. It’s sumptuous, fun, and oh so saucy!
Lady Tremaine by Rachel Hochhauser — This is Hochhauser’s debut novel, a sharp, richly-drawn, and oh-so-human take on the motherhood side of the Cinderella story… from the stepmother’s POV. I absolutely adored it.
When We Were Feral by Shasta Grant — a 1990s coming-of-age novel set in the dark and gorgeous forests and lakes of New Hampshire, this one asks us all to examine what it means—and has meant—to be a girl in the world. It’s awesome.
Next on my list: Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid (I didn’t realize it was in the bottom of my backpack until I unpacked!) So many readers have talked up this book; I’m excited to dig in to the 1980s and the Space Shuttle program.
